Potential of superabsorbent hydrogels to improve agriculture under abiotic stresses

چکیده
Hydrogels are a promising management option to increase the efficiency of water use in agriculture arid and semi-arid regions. However, abiotic factors may affect hydrogel efficacy. The effect stress on swelling residual acrylamide hydrogels was evaluated. treatments were three (A, B C), four temperatures (20, 30, 40 65 °C) two salinities (0.003 3.0 dS m−1). degree concentration measured. Data analyzed with univariate multivariate statistics. order under low salinity A>C>B; at high B>A>C. All presented reduction salinity, reductions A C 97% 85%, respectively, while 37% 20 °C greater than 89% higher temperatures. Hydrogel achieved good saline conditions, but only °C. Thus, temperature tolerance this should be improved so it can used improve regions levels. Residual levels decreased by 95% over 30 days, being safe for agricultural applications.

Plant Biomass Productivity Under Abiotic Stresses in SAT Agriculture
1.1 Prevalence of abiotic stresses in SAT agriculture The semi-arid tropics (SAT) include parts of 48 countries in the developing world: in most of India, locations in south east Asia, a swathe across sub-Saharan Africa, much of southern and eastern Africa, and a few locations in Latin America (Fig 1). Semi-arid tropical regions are characterized by unpredictable weather, long dry seasons, inco...
متن کاملBreeding for abiotic stresses for sustainable agriculture.
Using cereal crops as examples, we review the breeding for tolerance to the abiotic stresses of low nitrogen, drought, salinity and aluminium toxicity. All are already important abiotic stress factors that cause large and widespread yield reductions. Drought will increase in importance with climate change, the area of irrigated land that is salinized continues to increase, and the cost of inorg...
متن کاملPlant Responses to Individual and Combined Effects of Abiotic Stresses: Lycium depressum L. Vegetative Parameters under Salinity and Drought
Lycium depressum L. is the only native tree-like life-form species inhabited in saline and alkaline regions of Turkmen Sahra located at Golestan province in Northern Iran. During past years, efforts have been made to increase vegetation cover of the area by cultivation of L. depressum L. to reduce water and wind erosions and dust storm challenges; however, the cultivation of t...
متن کاملRegulation of Translation Initiation under Biotic and Abiotic Stresses
Plants have developed versatile strategies to deal with the great variety of challenging conditions they are exposed to. Among them, the regulation of translation is a common target to finely modulate gene expression both under biotic and abiotic stress situations. Upon environmental challenges, translation is regulated to reduce the consumption of energy and to selectively synthesize proteins ...
متن کاملSignal transduction pathways under abiotic stresses in plants
All abiotic stresses reduce plant growth and yield. The products of stress-inducible genes which could be directly protecting against these stresses include the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of various osmoprotectants like late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins, antifreeze proteins, chaperones and detoxification enzymes. Another group of gene products involved in gene expression and...
